Tory Richards - How I Got Here

No, I’m not going to start at the moment of conception, but I am very excited to be here today! This is my first time so I guess you can say I’m a Manic Readers virgin. Okay, stretching the truth a little? I guess at my age that would be a miracle. I mean, I’ve found and married my prince charming…twice!

I write under the pen name of Tory Richards. A member, KyAnn Waters told me I should join this site and, well, I almost always do what I’m told. KyAnn and I met at the 2009 Romantic Times Convention in Orlando Florida. I’ve been a published author since 2005 but have been writing all my life. Writing is my passion and for years I used it as thearapy. Therapy? I’m normal, I promise you. Just ask KyAnn!

I live in Florida with my soul mate and three pesky cats. One daughter, grown and I have one beautiful granddaughter. I love McDonald’s hazelnut iced coffee and Barnie’s Santa’s White Christmas coffee, I love chocolate, who doesn’t? And on Saturdays I watch sci-fi all day in my jammies.

Writing is a hobby for me. I was a closet writer for years. Kept it private, didn’t tell a soul that I was typing dirty stories on my manual typewriter in my bedroom, starting at the age of thirteen. The one time I told my parents what I wanted to be when I grew up they laughed at me. Talk about crushing my dreams! To this day I don’t think they realized how their reaction to my wanting to be a writer affected me. Hence not getting published for the first time until I was fifty.

It took my daughter and niece’s loving encouragement for me to submit to a publisher. That was after they read one of my books and said they thought it was as good if not better than a lot of books they’d read. Course, they’re not biased at all. But it did boost my confidence and I thought, what the heck, I’ll never know if I don’t try. Two months later I received my first contract! Needless to say I was in heaven.

I have several books published and today I’d like to talk about two of them. Starting with my first torrid romance with Whiskey Creek Press Torrid, It’s All in the Jeans came out in 2007. One (1) reader (drawn randomly) who comments on this post will win a download of it. I’ll announce who you are on my Romance with an Attitude Blog exactly one week from today.

“It’s All in the Jeans” is the story of a fire-fighter, Logan, recuperating from an accident that kills his two best friends. And a young woman, Libby, who will do anything to keep her grandmother from being sent to an assisted living facility. From the moment they meet sparks fly and they can’t keep their hands off each other. But since Logan was just dumped by a woman he thought loved him, he’s not interested in emotional attachments. So they come up with an outrageous solution, keep their relationship strictly sexual! Do they stick to their plan or give in to the overwhelming love that claims their hearts?

My current release, “The Cowboy Way” has a, you guessed it, cowboy as the hero. Chase is foreman and half owner of the ranch, the other half belonging to the heroine’s father. When Lacey comes home for a little R and R, trouble follows in the way of an escaped convict out for revenge against her father. Add a scorned ex-lover, arson and murder to the mix and you have suspense. Chase and Lacey, both strong willed individuals, don’t get along from the start. But they can’t ignore the sexual tension underlying their passionate encounters. Before long they find release in each other’s arms and bed.

“The Cowboy Way” has received rave reviews, I’m proud to say. Whipped Cream Reviews gave it their Best Book Rating, Coffee Time gave it 5 cups, Romance Junkies gave it a 5, The Romance Studio gave it 5 hearts. You can read them and more on my Tory Richards Website. One (1) reader will also be chosen to win a download of this book.

What’s next? I just finished my first short romance and a full length book, both I hope to submit soon. I also just received a contract for a previously released book that will go into print this time around. To meet the publisher’s guidelines I added 20,000 words which include a brand new last chapter. I’m really excited about that!

I have a monthly blog giveaway and a monthly newsletter if anyone is interested. Details can be found on my blog and website. I also have a nice Christmas giveaway this year but you’ll need to join my newsletter to be in the drawing for that.

Not to overstay my welcome, I’ll finish up by saying it was a pleasure being here today. My hope was to meet some new folks. Everyone have a great holiday season and stay safe.

Tootles!

Hey, Tory! I’m so glad that your daughter and your niece were wise beyond their years and convinced you to submit your work. The rest, as they say, is history! You write sensual romance tales with great characters and interesting story lines. What more could a girl ask for? Maybe some really good chocolate to go along with the great reads? Thanks for sharing : )

What’s the premise of the story?

I’m beyond glad that you did approach and publish your work…I can’t imagine not reading your work…You have a true gift and I can only hope that we can enjoy your works for years to come.

    Hi Tory,
I’m sure your family was not biased in regards to your writing. Congrats on the contract.

    Hi Tory,
I have been a fan of yours since I first read All the Right Moves and Someone to Love Me. I’m glad that you decided to pursue your writing and I wish you continued success.

  • Jo

I too loved your books! Eagerly anticipating your new ones! I love the diversity of your characters!

  • Thanks for stopping by and leaving comments, ladies! I appreciate your kind words more than you know, and I’m so glad you enjoy my books.

Tara, you mentioned All the Right Moves. That one didn’t makie it into print with NCP but a new publisher has offered me a print contract for it, and all I had to do was add 20,000 words! It has a whole new last chapter and a couple new steamy scenes between Annie and Marshall.

Sorry to say I don’t know when it will be released, Anna. But you know I’ll keep you all informed!

When I settle down to read you can bet I have some chocolate handy, Virginia. I like it with nuts:)

Thanks Jo, diversity keeps it fresh and interesting!

    Not biased at all, Jane:)

    Have a great up-coming week!
