Cleaning out my bookcases giveaway with Ivy

I’ve been going through my shelves for a while now.  There was a massive purge about a month ago.  I gave close to 200 books to the Salvation Army and close to 100 more to friends.  Since then I’ve been critically eyeing my shelves on a weekly basis.

Over years of doing this, usually centered around moving or the prospect of moving, I have only one giveaway regret.  Not bad all things considered.   My regret?  The Sonja Blue Series.   Honestly can’t remember if I gave it away or it was lost.

Presently my tastes are shifting again.  While I’m still reading romance, my eye is being drawn more to urban fantasy and mysteries.  It’ll shift again, no doubt.

Does anyone else go through these “taste changes”?

Thinking of all the book lovers  who subscribe to and visit the Manic Readers Blog I’ve held out a few for y’all.

These three appeal to me although they all sound awesome. I am a fan of M/M and have not read any of these authors.

  • Wow! I wish I lived closer – on the same land mass would do – because I would *love* to sort through those bookshelves. 🙂

Hope you don’t regret getting rid of the Minette Walters books!

  • Wow Ivy!
I impressed that you can part with that many books….my books are like my children, can’t & don’t want see them go!!
I too notice my tastes are changing as I age-UGH! I love erotic, paranormal and now have developed an interest also in mysteries. I would be interested in the Nancy Martin books or anything else you choose!
I am not that particular; well my husband may disagree!!
    Thanks for your thoughtful giveaways!
P.S.Your book cases put mine to shame!!!

@Yvette…Maybe I need to clarify. MM means mass market. I was letting y’all know the binding so if you’d like to change your selections….:) Feel free.

I’d love to have you wander through my shelves, Ms. Shirley. If you’re ever over on this side of the pond, open invitation. I kept the 2 I haven’t read yet & the 2 that really stuck w/ me. Think there’s 1 I don’t have yet but need to check that. The Shape of Snakes & Disordered Minds. Have you read those? Opinions?

Actually there are 3 more bookcases, Lynn. Those are the ones it was easiest to take pics of.:D Thank goodness they made them double deep & double wide. I’ve looked high & low for more like these but can’t find them. There’re pics, & other stuff mixed in w/ the books to make it interesting.
Jill Shalvis is my “go to” author to make me laugh..

You are so generous. I like A Highlander Christmas, One Night with the Wealthy Rancher or Highland Legacy. Thanks for the chance to get one.

  • Ivy

You do what you have to, Barb. Thought long & hard about each one before I gave them away. Less erotica, huh? Never thought I’d see it! 😀
The Blackbird Sisters is a good series.
My DH would question I’d gotten rid of that many! It’s true because I counted..
You’re welcome! If I keep this up there’ll be more in the future.

    Highland Legacy ~ anthology (trade)

A Highlander Christmas ~ anthology (trade)

Sins of the Past ~ Samantha Gentry (trade)

    Hi Ivy –

I just wanted to say thanks for the tips I’ve learned when looking at your bookcases! They gave me some ideas on how to make my husband think I actually HAD gotten rid of some of my books when in fact I had ADDED to them!

Since there is no such thing as too many books (and you did ask for 3 choices after all) my choices, which were difficult to make, are Highland Christmas (the only “man” better than Santa is a Highlander) and Highland Legacy (obviously I love men in kilts!).

My third pick is Black Magic Woman because when I read the first page (I went to Amazon and took a “peak”) I couldn’t stop laughing and now I just HAVE to read this story!

  • Ivy

Hey Rosemary & Joy. Thanks for stopping by.

Always happy to help, Jeanne. Found I can fit more in them when it’s done “creatively”. DH did actually notice & asked how many were gone. He could tell it was quite a lot.
The Other’s series is a lot of fun. This was a dupe. Tried making lists but they just got behind. Tried calling home & y’all see how well that worked. So, from time to time I get dupes…

Did anyone notice my Scooby Doo gumball machine, smurf, California raisin, & host of other little things I’ve stuck in w/ the books? Keeps it fun..

    hm.. tough choices! Ok
    1. Sins of the Past- Samantha Gentry,I haven’t read any of her books and I heard she’s a great author, so I’d love to read something from her.
    2. At Last- Jill Shalvis- I adore her and this is one of the few books of her I don’t have. 🙂
    3. Black Magic Woman- Christine Warren. I LOVE this series. I haven’t read all of the though and this is one of those. 🙂 Thanks so much! I am completely jealous of your bookcases! 😉 I dont have the room to have that kind in my house.

    I’d like to have:
Last Man Standing ~ Cindy Gerard because I like the BOIs series.
How to Marry a Millionaire & Some Like it Lethal ~ Nancy Martin because she’s a new author to me.
Black Magic Woman ~ Christine Warren because I started humming the song when I read the title.
Thanks for sharing your bounty with us.

  • LilMissMolly

I really like historical fiction and traditional romance. That’s about it. I’m uncomfortable reading the more erotic and less traditional stuff.

  • Na S.

You’re definitely not alone! Earlier this Summer I also did a cleanup of my shelves. I knew some books I would not be able to get to and some I had already read and didn’t see myself re-reading. I figure someone else needs to enjoy these books. I also read various genres and that keeps me interested. The three books that appeal to me are:

The Lost Wife ~ Alyson Richman (trade) – I’m a big fan of WWII stories and this one sounds like a great one.
At Last ~ Jill Shalvis (mm)- I really need to start this series. It’s a small town contemporary romance which sounds very sweet.
Last Man Standing ~ Cindy Gerard (mm) – I’ve been reading a lot of romantic suspense lately. Cindy is a new author for me so I would like to try her books.

Happy reading! Thanks for sharing your books 🙂

  • Black Magic Woman ~ Christine Warren, The Other’s srs. (hc)

The Lost Wife ~ Alyson Richman (trade)

One Night with the Wealthy Rancher ~ Brenda Jackson signed!!! (mm)

When my body tends to navigate its self to the book section of a store or I am ranshaking B&N BOOK COVERS are what draws me to a book first. Second is the TITLE. Third is the DESCRIPTION.

Since I have no book cover & no description & a manic desire to find new authors to love, I chose these books based on their titles.

  • Belinda P

I like and read mostly historical romance books by Sabrina Jeffries, Shana Galen, Carrie Lofty. As well as some vampire and paranormal ones. I have yet to read Defiant by Pamela Clare.

  • Ivy

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by. Some interesting reasons why some books were selected.

  • Ivy

Surprised there hasn’t been anyone interested in the Minette Walters books.
