THE GLASS HOUSE with Neils Williams

“Those who live in the Glass house shouldn’t throw stones.”

With a newly-wed wife and an architect career, things are looking up for Todd Clemons. But when estranged millionaire Thomas Glass comes to town, Todd discovers his business is more in demand than he bargained. Dangerously in demand. Forced to work for Mr. Glass against his will, Todd must complete the task at hand save himself and his new family or else this may be the last project of his life.

I was confused to see her there. She still had three days before coming back. “Baby.” I choked. “Sweetheart, I don’t kn—know what’s go—ing on” She sobbed between words. “I was trying to surprise y—you by showing up early. I hope you’re ok. Just please….pl–please do what the man says. He said every time you refuse …they will torture me a—and kill us both” She cried. “Starting now!” Thomas in the video exclaimed.
Just before the video ended he smacked her across the side of her head with the gun. “You son of a bitch!“ I jumped up ready to rush him again. I had stopped in my tracks when he raised his gun. “Where is she? What did you do to her?!” I yelled. “Don’t worry she’s in safe hands as long as ya finish.” He answered calmly.
I felt helpless. I couldn’t believe my wife was in danger right along with me. She had nothing to do with this. She doesn’t deserve to be taken hostage. I took a few steps back as tears ran down my face. I had no choice. I scanned the room and spotted the pile of tools in the back corner. I walked over to them and knelt down. My tears had landed on the power drill as I picked it up from the pile. “Ok.” I started.
I wiped my face as I stood up. “I’ll finish it.” I said meekly. as I continued to look at the tools. Thomas was already standing. “Excellent!” he exclaimed. He turned and made his way out the door. “Well I’ll leave ya to it.” He said as he entered the security key in the door. I sighed in defeat as I picked up a piece of wall panel. “Don’t worry sweetheart. I’ll get us outta here.” I mumbled as I began drilling.

FIRE INSIDE Blitz with Kristin Ashley

Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love-no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club . . .

For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She’s too polished and too classy for his taste. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can’t say no. And he doesn’t regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that’s ever happened to him-in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

Hop came out of the bathroom to see Lanie on her feet on the other side of the bed, panties on, hands twisted behind her back putting her bra on. Again.
He didn’t say a word. He prowled to her, reached out an arm the second he was close, yanked her to him and fell to his back in the bed, taking her down with him.
“Hop—” she started, pushing her weight against his arms, but he slid her off him then wasted no time rolling over her and pinning her to his bed.
“Sleep,” he ordered when he caught her eyes in the weak dawn. “After rest, I’ll get coffee, we’ll juice up, then round four.”
She blinked and breathed, “Four?”
“Got lots more I want to do to you,” he informed her and watched her eyes go soft, sexier, then her teeth came out to graze her lush lower lip, also fucking sexy, and her arms slid around him.
But she asked, “What about Tack and Ty-Ty?”
“I’ll make sure the coast is clear,” he told her.
“But they’ll see my car,” she told him.
“I’ll move it,” he offered.
Her hand slid up his back, around his shoulder, and then to his neck where her thumb moved to stroke him.
Her touch was light but, fuck, it felt good. He’d never had a woman touch him in an unconscious way like that, just a touch, a stroke, giving something that meant nothing at the same time doing it without thinking about it meant everything.
“This is just supposed to be one night,” she reminded him quietly, but he saw it in her eyes. She didn’t even try to hide it. She’d bitten off more than she could chew.
He had too and he was nowhere near done eating.
She was cute. She was sweet. She was hot. She was better than he expected and he’d expected her to be pretty fucking good. All that wrapped in a package that gorgeous?
He was nowhere near done eating.
“Change of plans. A night and a morning and, maybe, an afternoon and, possibly, another night,” he amended, and her eyes got softer as her hand slid up to cup his jaw.
“I have to work,” she told him.
“Call off,” he told her.
“I can’t. I own the joint.” She explained something he knew, that she ran her own advertising agency. “And things are a bit crazy.”
Things were always crazy for Lanie. The woman lived crazy. She thrived on it. If there wasn’t crazy, she stirred it up because she couldn’t breathe without it.
“Babe,” he pressed his body into hers, “told you, got more I want to do to you.”

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.  And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

WAR OF WINGS Review and giveaway

Thought I’d share Tanner’s update video with y’all.

My thoughts on WAR OF WINGS

WAR OF WINGS is the first in a trilogy surrounding the fall of Lucifer and a third of the angels from Heaven.

WAR OF WINGS is a well thought out and imaginative account of events leading up to, during, and immediately after the fall via Gabriel and Lucifer’s points of view.

Gabriel is introduced as a slacker who becomes a reluctant and unlikely leader.

Lucifer Morningstar the first and brightest, the great deceiver who believed he was God’s equal.

We know the story of Lucifer and his expulsion from Heaven, but we know the 20,000 foot version.  Tanner McElroy imagines a more personal view for readers, adroitly walking a fine line of humanizing angels enough to make them relatable while maintaining their otherworldliness.  It’s well done and the slow inexorable transformation of Lucifer and his followers, a visual representation of their hearts, is one of my favorite aspects.

Lucifer’s insidious campaign against God and Gabriel’s struggle with love and truth drew me into WAR OF WINGS. When events finally culminate in a definitive battle on the grounds of Provender, God’s loyal angels have no concept of the dark knowledge Lucifer has gained and can’t wait to wield. During the battle, I was reading furiously while white-knuckle gripping my book. Despite knowing the outcome, tense, would be putting it mildly.

WAR OF WINGS is a thought provoking book about God, faith, love, free will and responsibility.  If these interest you, WAR OF WINGS should be at the top of your TBR pile.  Hopefully, BkII, THE REIGN will be released soon.

I’ll leave you with my favorite passage.  It speaks volumes.

“They made their own choice, Gabriel.  There is no hope for them.  You must accept that.”

“That is the difference between you and me. I believe God’s forgiveness is limitless. I have hope for her. I have hope for all of them.”  He looked back to the beautiful blue world receding into the distance behind them. So much promise there. When he spoke again it was with hard-earned wisdom.  He could feel the truth of it. “Some see a hopeless end while others see endless hope.”

4 Stars

WAR OF WINGS The Epic Battle For Heaven with Tanner McElroy

Written from the two opposing perspectives of Gabriel and Lucifer, War of Wings follows their paths and love stories as they face a violent war that leads to the fall of one-third of the angels from Heaven. Gabriel, the archangel, loves life, but there is one thing in Heaven that he cannot tolerate: perfection. Lucifer, God’s highest cherubim angel and “perfect image of beauty,” stands alone
in the hierarchy leading praise, worship, music, and laughter in the hope that one day he will be promoted to God’s equal. War of Wings is a fast-paced journey of two battling angels yearning for change. Their destinies emerge from triumph, failure, love, and heartbreak, as they discover that even in Heaven decisions always have consequences.

Thanks for taking the time to visit Manic Readers, Tanner.

As a reader my first thought, after being snagged by blurb, was a small inner groan when I read trilogy.  How long can readers expect to wait between books?

Before I started writing this first manuscript I mapped out the story steps, hero’s journey, and some main characters through the trilogy.  The outline of all three was actually the first thing I completed.  The amount of time between books will depend on how much time I have to write with everything going on in my life.  I have a day job in medical device sales, so until writing can support me full time I can’t answer this completely.  I am currently on chapter 4 of book two, War of Wings: The Reign.  Trust me, I know how the word “trilogy” sounds coming from a new writer.  Let’s start with the first book and come from there.

According to an interview I watched, your brother Travis came up with the idea for WAR OF WINGS and you wrote it.  Did Travis continue to have input during the writing process?

My brother and I have always been huge fans of epic tales of good versus evil and he brought up about a decade ago that the story of the fall of the angels would make a great movie.  He had a vision of the angels being cast down to Earth like flaming fireballs and then crawling out of craters.  It really inspired me at the beginning and then I took it and ran for four years.  He has two kids and runs a few companies.  He has been vital to the business side and he will be more involved in the creation of the second book because I’ll make him.  He’s always had great input on everything my whole life.

For those who may not be familiar with it, please tell us about WAR OF WINGS.

WAR OF WINGS tells the story of how the angels fell from Heaven.  It takes perfect Paradise and gives a detailed account of how Lucifer, the highest cherubim angel starts a revolution based on his own justification that God is not who He claims to be.  The story is told through the perspectives of Gabriel the archangel and Lucifer and their paths cross thanks to a virtue angel named Arrayah.

Why base WAR OF WINGS on the Biblical fall rather than creating your own world?

There was so little from the Bible on the fall that I felt paying respect to the pieces that are there was a must. This is true not only in the Bible but in Milton’s Paradise Lost as well as studying the views of angels in the other major religions as well.  Much of the world is created however.

Is everything plotted out to the nth degree or do the characters sometimes surprise you?

I started with an outline of three books as well as the major story steps for the three.  Then I wrote out the hero’s journey I wanted to have my protagonist go through, however the characters all ended up developing more of their own voices than I ever would have realized.

Book II is titled THE REIGN, any details you can share?

Book II starts with a naked man running through the woods and he drops an apple with a bite out of it.  Sin is discovered.  The manuscript picks up with Satan’s first victory after establishing his new goals on Earth from his defeat in the first novel.  Book II is all about the puppet masters of humans and how they battle throughout time.  Much inspiration came from Homer and the way the gods affected humans through their own agendas, games, arguments, and battles.

Anything on Book III?

Book III is called THE REVELATION.

In recent years there’s been quite an uptick in the popularity of angels across all genres.  What are your personal thoughts & beliefs on angels?

I believe in a higher power and I know there are things in this life we do not understand.

The concept art is truly amazing and the way y’all packaged and presented the ARC’s was unique and lovely,  Thank you..:)

Why use concept art at all and will it or the gorgeous cards be used in or sold with the book?

Thank you for the compliment.  We were blessed to be able to work with an amazing concept artist from Montpelier named Bastien Grivet.  We did the concept art for multiple reasons.  First of all we are both fans and absolute geeks when it comes to epic trilogies such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.  We wanted to see them as much as we knew it would help others envision what we are trying to do with this series.  We hoped the ARC’s would stand out thinking outside of the box and my brother is one of the best when it comes to presentation.  I give him all the credit.

Have you created different “sets” for each book?

Have you read anything recently that you would highly recommend?

My favorite writer right now is Dennis Lehane.  I just read his book called Live By Night about a rumrunner during the prohibition.  He is a phenomenal storyteller and this book has all the elements that make a great novel for me.  Love is always influencing his protagonists and my favorite heroes always make bad decisions in the name of love.  I also read Inferno by Dan Brown and I recommend this book as well.  He is second to none creating worlds based on real art, locations, and inspired realistic journeys through international treasures.  I have always been fascinated with Dante Aligheri also so that may make me a bit bias to this novel but I think it is his best work.

What are you currently reading?  Do you re-read?

I am currently reading Duty by Robert Gates.  I met him and my good friend from college worked for him for four years so I have heard much about him.

What’s next for Tanner and Travis McElroy after your WAR OF WINGS trilogy?

I have another novel that is very close to my heart that I will put out about college love, heartbreak, and baseball called The Stitches that we will put out next.  We hope to be making the WAR OF WINGS film first!

Thank you!

Y’all be sure and come back tomorrow when, thanks to Sami & Tanner, Manic Readers will have a paperback copy of WAR OF WINGS to give away!

Raised in Dallas, Texas, by a devoted Christian mother and a father with a more broad view of religion, Tanner McElroy grew up knowing the significance of making his own decisions. While gaining a deep understanding of the Bible from his mother and a passion for epic stories from his father, he was able to combine the two for his saga, “War of Wings.”  McElroy attended Texas Tech University with an academic scholarship from 2000 to 2005. There, he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and was awarded Male Student Athlete of the Year in 2005 for his accomplishments in the classroom and on the baseball field.  In 2006, he packed up his bags and headed to the West Coast to study at Howard Fine Studio in Los Angeles where he gained much understanding of the depth of characters. It was there he realized “everyone justifies his/her own actions, even serial killers,” which defined Lucifer’s actions, conversations with God, and persuasiveness in his rebellion.  McElroy is a member of the Screen Actors Guild as well as the Romance Writers of America and the Writers’ League of Texas. McElroy lives in Dallas, Texas.  When he’s not writing stories, he spends time painting, acting, songwriting, and playing his guitar.

TURNED and giveaway with Virna DePaul

Thank you for having me here today! I am excited to tell Manic Readers about my upcoming paranormal release TURNED. TURNED is the first book in
my new series called The Belladonna Agency. The Belladonna Agency is an intelligence agency that hunts paranormal criminals.  I hope you enjoy the excerpt below and enter to win a Print copy of TURNED.
Welcome to a mesmerizing world where vampires hide among humans. This centuries-old species has its own rules, code of
conduct, and taboos. Only the FBI knows that vampires exist—and although the Bureau agrees to keep their secret, it also
plots to give humans the upper hand.

Turning mortals into vampires is forbidden.

But there are creatures who refuse to play by the rules.

Ever since he was turned, FBI special agent Ty Duncan has had one mission: bring rogue vampires to justice. As a recruiter for Belladonna, a shadow agency formed to keep vampires in check, Ty must tap Ana Martin, a troubled ex–gang member and one of the few mortals who can infiltrate places that his kind and the law cannot. From their first encounter, Ty fights a hunger to make Ana his own.

When Ty claims to have information about Ana’s missing sister, Ana has
no choice but to trust this captivating stranger who awakens her deepest
desires. But as she and Ty climb the heights of pleasure and passion, an
enemy is conspiring to destroy them both.
Can Ana help Ty find his humanity in a love that could heal them both, or will their passion lead them
into a darkness impossible to escape?

As Ty walked behind the counter and retrieved his gun, Ana got to her feet and sat at one of the larger tables. It took
her a moment to catch her breath, far longer than that to stop shaking. She wanted him gone. Now. But by fighting
him for his gun, she’d tacitly agreed to his terms, so she’d do what she agreed to. She’d hear what he had to say.
Then she’d kick him out and make sure she never saw him again.
Even as she kept her gaze averted, she tried to wipe her mind clean of the memory of his touch. His kiss.
When he stood next to her, however, she had no choice but to look at him. For a second, she swore his gaze dropped
to her mouth and her lips actually tingled. She automatically licked them in an effort to drive the sensation away, but
all she got for her trouble was the faint taste of him on her tongue. Although she managed to stifle a moan, the
darkening of his eyes suggested he knew she’d had to do so. But he didn’t say anything. Instead, he extracted a
business card from a small polished case that he slipped out of his pocket and held it out to her.
Slowly, she took it.
All it had on it was an agency name and phone number. “I’m Ty Duncan. As you can see from that card, I work for
an organization called Belladonna.”
She couldn’t deny how intrigued she was, any more than she could deny her body’s visceral response to his. “Go
“Belladonna is Italian for ‘beautiful lady.’ It is also a plant whose berry juice was used in Italy to enlarge the pupils
of women, giving them a striking appearance. Not a good idea, since the juice can be poisonous.”
“Thanks for the history lesson.”
He sighed. “I’m trying to explain why I want to hire you, specifically. Someone who is both beautiful and deadly.”
She stared at him with her mouth open, then snorted. Right. Like he found her beautiful. Kissing her to distract her
was one thing, but she’d bet the women he slept with spent serious money on clothes, wore silk lingerie to bed, and
sipped tea out of antique porcelain cups in the morning. Plus they probably used endearments like “dahling” or
“Belladonna is a private intelligence agency,” he continued. “Not listed anywhere. We maintain the strictest
confidentiality, for both our clients and our employees. We also mainly employ women.”
Surprise tickled the back of her spine. Whatever she’d been expecting him to say, it hadn’t been this. The only
private intelligence agencies she’d heard of dealt in intellectual property—-corporate secrets, not national security.
Nonetheless, she told herself to play along. To find out exactly what connection this man had to Gloria.
“Why women?” She was relieved that her voice sounded steady, even a little bored.
“Specializing in female agents allows us to maintain a variety of covers. To go where the government can’t.”
“What kind of intelligence, specifically?”
“Intelligence that bad guys don’t want us to have.”
Her mouth twisted and she nodded. “Ah, por supuesto. You’re one of the good guys. Saving the world from
criminals and bureaucratic bullshit all at the same time.”
He grinned and stretched, raising his arms high above his head as if working out the leftover kinks from their tussle.
His sleeves strained to contain bulging biceps and his shirttail lifted, revealing just the slightest glimpse of a ridged,
rock–hard stomach.
Oh, God, she silently moaned.
What’s wrong with me? I’ve never been this attracted to a man before.
And it wasn’t just her body that was reacting to him. It was almost as if he’d inserted himself in her mind . . .
But then, she’d never met a man like him before. He was a novelty, that was all. Dragging her gaze away and up,
she narrowed her eyes at the twinkle in his.
He quirked his lips, then lowered his arms and shrugged. “Does it really matter to you whether we’re the good
She hesitated. “Let’s assume for a minute it does.” “In that case, good or bad is a relative term, but yes, I believe what we’re trying to do is for the common good.”
“Good for the world and good for you,” she said.
When he raised a questioning brow, she said, “I’m assuming you get paid well for what you do?”
He tilted his head, his expression almost chiding. “You have a problem with compensation for a job well done?”
She looked away and pressed her lips together, suddenly feeling foolish. Even so, she could still hear the
prosecutor’s words from seven years ago, echoing in her head as if he was standing right next to her.
“Money. A few measly dollars. That’s why she did what she did, ladies and gentlemen. It’s why she stole. Sold
drugs. Preyed on the weak and elderly. For cold, hard cash. Don’t let this young woman’s face fool you,” he’d said
with disgust. “She’s a mercenary through and through.”
“Ana,” the man prompted softly.
She shot to her feet. “Don’t you know el dinero es la raíz de toda mal?”
“That’s where you’re wrong. Money isn’t the root of all evil. Humans and other monsters have that covered all on
their own. Money is just money.”
She ignored the latter part of his statement. “You speak Spanish quite well. I assume you learned in Europe. And
your accent is British. So why aren’t you busy protecting England’s soil?”
“I’m half American on my father’s side. As to why I’m not in England? Because the monsters I’m hunting are here,
not there.”
“What monsters?”
“Let’s just say that’s on a need–to–know basis. And until you agree to join the agency, you don’t need to know.”

Speaking of Ginger, it hurts like hell knowing she suspects me of killing several wealthy men. Is it possible I did it and can’t remember? Jesus Christ! I hope not.

Just because I’m the beneficiary on a life policy worth millions doesn’t mean squat. Okay yes, I was at the crime scene when the cops burst in. Yes I broke into the victim’s home. You’re right, I do look guilty. Goodbye.

A love beyond reason and without boundaries.)

The alpha hero in Rock My Boat by Afton Locke, a paranormal romance, is a shape shifter. From the time Simon realizes Rhonda is his mate and decides he needs her, he pursues her. That woman can make him vulnerable in a heartbeat, though, changing all his plans.
story snippet:
Bleak coldness flooded his limbs, reminding him of the stormy night that had changed the course of his life forever. Losing her was not an option. She was the one. He’d known from the moment he’d spotted her at the safety briefing.
(Once addicted to the sea, you can’t escape its pleasures.)

Silver Tongued Devils by Dawn Montgomery, a sci-fi romance, has two alpha heroes. Captain Na’varr has searched for the chance to take back the world he’d lost in a bloody coups d’état. Raesa offers him a chance he’d never imagined, and one he can’t refuse.
Brom learned early on that he had to rely on himself for survival. When Na’varr saved his life, he swore to serve him until death. Meeting Raesa unraveled his careful plans, but drives him forward. (She was always one step from hell until she found redemption in their arms.)

In Fight for Love by Delaney Diamond, a contemporary romance, the alpha hero is a former professional wrestler. Rafael is determined to get his wife and child to move to California to be with him, and he’s determined to protect his son from the media spotlight. He doesn’t want his son to suffer because he’s a celebrity. (A former pro wrestler fights to hold onto the woman he lost, but still loves, and the son he never knew existed.)

The alpha hero in Crazy by Eve Langlais, a paranormal romance, is a vampire. Once Zane sets his sights on making Ella his, even poltergeists can’t stand in his way. (Ella hears voices and they don’t like anyone.)

In Sex With an Ex by Eve Vaughn, a contemporary romance, the alpha hero is a lawyer. When Ethan Boudreaux sees something he wants, he’ll go after it. He’s determined to have Riley back in his life and in his bed. Ethan is used to getting what he wants because he won’t let anything stand in his way. (When two divorcees reunite in the bedroom, the sex is hotter than ever, but can their hearts survive the second time around?)

The alpha hero for In Her Wildest Dreams by Farrah Rochon is a CEO chocolatier. Once Gavin decides it’s time to change his relationship with Erica from friends to lovers, it’s a full court press to win her heart. (When the woman of his dreams asks him to create a Valentine’s Day fantasy, Gavin plans to show her just how sweet their reality could be.)

In Two Cops, a Girl and a Pair of Handcuffs by Paige Tyler, a contemporary romance, the heroes, Reed and Hayes, are both cops. They don’t want a one-night stand with Cilla, and they’re determined to make sure it isn’t. (Working the late shift just got a whole lot more fun!)

The alpha hero in Chase and Seduction: Hot Country Series, Book 1 by Randi Alexander, a contemporary romance, is a musician. When the woman he’s chosen to seduce turns him down flat, country western superstar Chase Tanner takes steps to make sure she knows he still wants her, and will keep trying to convince her to give him a chance. “There are ten reborns in that hillside lair.”

Audie pulled his sword so quickly the woman’s bright blue gaze widened slightly with alarm. “Let’s go kill them.”

Instead of moving, Yeira just stared up at him, looking eminently disappointed.

When she didn’t move, Audie placed the tip of his sword in the dirt at his feet and leaned on it. “What?”

“Have you even been listening to me?”

He frowned. “Hanging on every word, why?”

“You remember the part about my goal? Wherein I don’t kill everything that moves but instead try to find Edwige?”

She sounded so much like his legal counsel Audie couldn’t help grinning. She certainly didn’t look like any lawyer he’d ever met. “Vaguely.”

She turned on her heel and strode away, her feet hitting the dry, scratchy-sounding grass much harder than they needed to.

Feeling just a tiny bit proud of himself for getting under her skin, Audie started after her. The good feeling didn’t last long.

As soon as he caught up she glanced at him and asked. “So how good are you at restrictive magics?”

Audie worked hard not to show his panic. “I’m much better at whacking things than restraining them.”

One corner of her delicious mouth curved upward. “You do have guide magic, right?”

“Of course!” He was deeply insulted by her question. Only the novice hunter walked around without a guide to call. “I didn’t say I couldn’t restrain them. I just said I was better at lopping off their heads.”

She sniffed but didn’t say anything and Audie’s temper flared. Suddenly he found it very important to prove himself to her. He stopped, but the woman kept walking. Watching her fine, heart-shaped behind sway away from him, he lifted one hand, palm up. With a thought he called the magic in their surroundings and sparking blue particles of energy filled the air, speeding toward him. The light caught and swirled in a power-whirlwind above his palm, waiting for his direction.

Smiling, Audie glanced at the woman, whose, curvy form had widened the distance between them by ten feet. With a thought he sent the swirling blue magic surging toward her, grinning as it wrapped her in a shimmering embrace and dragged her to a halt.

She gave a little squeal of alarm and Audie strode over, stopping to stare down at her. “It appears my restrictive magics work just fine.

She struggled against his magic web. “Good. Now let me go.”

Watching her fight the magic, her red hair flying around delicate shoulders as she struggled to get free, something broke inside Audie. Something that had been closed was wrenched open. And suddenly he couldn’t help wondering how her wine-colored lips would taste—pondering how they’d feel moving softly beneath his.

Once the thought was free he couldn’t call it back and Audie stepped closer.

She stopped struggling and looked up at him through those unfathomable blue eyes, the thick fringe of dark red lashes fluttering slightly as she seemed to consider whether he meant her harm. Audie reached out and touched her porcelain-colored cheek, and she flinched.

His finger scraped softly against the velvet surface and Audie turned it so the calluses on the tips wouldn’t abrade her delicate skin. “How is it possible that you’re so beautiful?” He murmured. It was meant to be a thought. One he’d wondered all too often to himself. But the words escaped his lips and she heard.

Yeira’s eyes widened in alarm. “Look, Hunter, I…”

He didn’t want to hear what she had to say. Couldn’t stand it if, in the moment when his cold heart had warmed slightly, she filled the heat-charged air between them with ugly words. So he did the only thing he could. He lowered his head and captured her lush, burgundy lips with his own.

And the thing that had blossomed inside his chest creaked open another inch as she responded with instinctive passion to his touch.

Making Out with Blowfish by Brian Sweany Book Blog Blast Tour with giveaway

This is the part in our hero’s story where he looks back and reflects upon the man he is today, but the truth is I’m still searching for him. I am still lost. Not the guy who thought I had found my way out of the wilderness . . . not the guy I wanted to become.

When we last saw Hank Fitzpatrick in Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer, he seemed to be finally figuring things out. He had a girlfriend. He had a life. But his secrets were yet to be discovered, his demons yet to be exorcised, and soon he would have no choice but to face them both. Gone is the boy we came to love, replaced by a man we struggle to like. Welcome back to Empire Ridge. Making Out with Blowfish is fear and loathing in the suburbs as told in Brian Sweany’s uniquely uninhibited voice.

“What’s the point of loving something only for it to be taken away?”

“The point is in the loving,” Beth says. “Our willingness to endure the heartbreak and to still travel down the road together hand in hand even though we know how it’s going to end is exactly what makes life worth living and people worth loving.”

And with those words, seemingly on cue, Darius Rucker stands in front of a microphone on The Late Show. He settles into the chorus of a country song I’ve never heard: “Don’t think I don’t think about it, don’t think I don’t have regrets, don’t think it don’t get to me, between the work and the hurt and the whiskey.”

        I try not to smile.

Beth stands up, pulls me out of bed with her.

        “One more dance?” she says.

I take her hand in mine. “How about we keep that number a little more open-ended?”

        “Forever then?”

        “Forever it is,” I say.

Since 2000, Brian Sweany has been the Director of Acquisitions for Recorded Books, one of the world’s largest audiobook publishers. Prior to that he edited cookbooks and computer manuals and claims to have saved a major pharmaceutical company from being crippled by the Y2K bug. Brian has a BS in English from Eastern Michigan University, from which he graduated magna cum laude in 1995. He’s a retired semiprofessional student, with stopovers at: Wabash College, the all-male school that reputedly fired Ezra Pound from its faculty for having sex with a prostitute; Marian University, the former all-female school founded by Franciscan nuns that, if you don’t count Brian’s expulsion, has fired no one of consequence and is relatively prostitute-free; and Indiana University via a high school honors course he has no recollection of ever attending.

Brian has penned several articles for about his real-life struggles to overcome sexual abuse as a young boy. Making Out with Blowfish is the sequel to his debut novel, Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer, and both books draw inspiration from this experience.

Brian has spent most of his life in the Midwest and now lives near Indianapolis with his wife, three kids, and two rescue dogs. For more details, check out the author’s website at:

HIGHLAND COURAGE and giveaway with Ceci Giltenan

To be adored…
Sigh. Is there any woman who doesn’t wish to feel adored at least by that one special person? I think every woman deserves to feel adored and if men could just figure out how to do this, everyone would be happier.
So far the positive reviews for Highland Courage have nearly all commented on how wonderful the hero Tadhg is. I think the reason for this is simple. Tadhg adores Mairead and it shows. He wants her to be safe and happy. He listens to her, pays attention to her moods and figures out what works and what doesn’t when interacting with her. Mairead, who had grown up in a large loving family certainly understood what it meant to be loved. Being adored was an entirely new sensation.
“Swept up in the flow of events, Mairead was a little overwhelmed and didn’t quite know what to make of Laird Matheson. The attention he paid her caught her completely off guard. In the flurry of activity usually surrounding her large family, she could always slip into the background, but he seemed to focus only on her. It left her blushing persistently but, oddly, didn’t make her uncomfortable.”
Is adoration simply being in tune with the rhythms of someone else’s life and lovingly responding to them? Perhaps it isn’t for everyone, but this defines adoration for me. What makes you feel adored?

Ceci is giving away one (1) ecopy of HIGHLAND COURAGE to a randomly drawn commenter who answers her question.  Giveaway ends @12am est 3-15-14. Good Luck!

Her parents want a betrothal, but Mairead MacKenzie can’t get married without revealing her secret and no man will wed her once he knows. Plain in comparison to her siblings and extremely reserved, Mairead has been called “MacKenzie’s Mouse” since she was a child. No one knows the reason for her timidity and she would just as soon keep it that way. When her parents arrange a betrothal to Laird Tadhg Matheson she is horrified. She only sees one way to prevent an old secret from becoming a new scandal.

Tadhg Matheson admires and respects the MacKenzies. While an alliance with them through marriage to Mairead would be in his clan’s best interest, he knows Laird MacKenzie seeks a closer alliance with another clan. When Tadhg learns of her terrible shyness and her youngest brother’s fears about her, Tadhg offers for her anyway.

Secrets always have a way of revealing themselves. With Tadhg’s unconditional love, can Mairead find the strength and courage she needs to handle the consequences when they do?

Ceci’s sixth grade class predicted that she would be an author. “But I want to be a nurse!” she said, in her typically bossy style. As it turns out, she became both. She started her career as an oncology nurse at a leading research hospital, and eventually became a successful medical writer. In 1991 she married a young Irish carpenter who she met at a friend’s wedding. They raised their family in central New Jersey and now with their youngest off to college, Ceci is breaking away from “primary efficacy endpoints” and writing a few “happily ever after’s.”

A WHIFF OF IRRESISTIBLE DESIRE and giveaway with Tara Fox Hall

A romantic or sexy scene often includes a sultry song, lingerie, candles, or other props to set the stage for a passionate encounter. Sight, sound, touch, and speech are used frequently in fiction to convey a sense of desire. But what about scent? Too often in romance that is neglected, and only mentioned when there is food or drink of some kind mentioned, or a character is wearing a specific perfume, usually a sultry one.

I hazard the guess that some of a writer’s reluctance to use this sense comes from the idea that people perceive scents markedly differently. While one person may love the scent of a specific fragrance, others will often dislike it if not hate it. I argue that is true for other senses as well. Scent can be an asset to a scene, if used sparingly, and in the right way.
One Promise Me fact is that vampires and shifters have an enhanced sense of smell. Those humans with vampire taint to them—like my heroine Sarelle—take on this vampiric sense as part of their turning. Shortly after she begins a relationship with the vampire Danial, she begins to allude to his scent of nutmeg and cedar, an alluringly spicy mix that she thinks he wears like perfume. Its only later that she discovers that this scent she perceives is the result of her being partly turned. Others also have a scent; Sarelle often alludes in the series about the werecougar Theo’s scent of prairie grass, wide-open skies, and pine trees. In fact, it is how she discovers him after a long separation of years, when she smells that familiar scent out of the blue.
Why did I use the scents above? They are personally my favorite scents, as is the Myrtlewood oil I allocate as the vampire Devlin’s specific fragrance, as seen in this excerpt below:

Devlin’s eyes had been filled with fire and lust, no matter how many times we’d coupled, their radiance undimmed. But they had been most beautiful at the night’s end, when he’d declared his love for me so passionately. I closed my eyes, remembering his kisses, the brush of his fangs over my skin, the whisper of his words as he quoted me poetry, the feel of his body in mine, caressing me so skillfully…

I let out a long wistful sigh. Then I got out of the tub and went to the bathroom mirror, and pulled out a small vial. Settling back in the tub, I inhaled deeply, shivering in pleasure.
I’d never attributed any particular scent to Devlin. In the time I’d spent with him, I’d either been too nervous, scared, pissed off, or in the case of our interlude, overwhelmed with the many other wonderful things I was experiencing to notice one. But when I’d been in the midst of a craft fair with Elle and my mother two days ago, I’d known the singular scent instantly.
It had taken the better part of a half hour to search though the table of scented candles and essential oils where the smell was coming from. Part of that was my instinct to first try scents I considered sexy, like musk, sandalwood, leather, and even Danial’s particular scent, which was like spicy nutmeg and cedar. It wasn’t until I’d given up on the candles and reached the more unlikely named oils that I found what I was looking for: Myrtlewood.
I’d held the vial in my hands, knowing it was a mistake to buy it. I wanted to so badly, desperately. So I had taken one last smell, then reluctantly put it back. Later that day, as we were leaving, my mother had surprised me with the vial as a present.
“I could see you liked it,” she said with a smile, handing me the package. “I know they’re overpriced, but it’s only money.”
“Thanks,” I said, grabbing the bag in my eagerness. “You shouldn’t have.”
The clock chimed in the other room. Reluctantly, I conceded it was past time for bed. I put the vial back, pulled the bathtub’s plug, and put on pajamas. Then I stoked the fire, loading on enough logs to last until morning. The nights were cold now, with winter almost here.

Comment on this post to be entered into a drawing for some Myrtlewood Perfume!

In a desperate effort to halt her transformation to vampire, and stop her longing for the sultry Devlin, Sarelle willingly takes a drug to kill her desire, even as Danial prepares for the introduction of their son Theoron at a Vampire Gathering on New Year’s Eve. Faced with Theo’s betrayal at the eleventh hour, Sarelle must either trust in Danial to save her, or join forces with Devlin, revealing her secret desire for him.

AND THEN I MET MARGARET and giveaway with Rob White

If it ain’t practical, it ain’t spiritual

In my book, And Then I Met Margaret, I share twenty one epoch experiences that helped lift me out of poverty into prosperity. I don’t consider it a “How To Get Rich” book by any means, but I do consider it a spiritual self-help book. The book points to many of the everyday, ordinary, unassuming gurus that have crossed my path and helped me see myself and life rightly. Seeing oneself rightly is the richest experience one can have.

Some of the readers of my book focus on the fact that I went from financial rags to riches, and they are more interested in understanding more about that particular part of the journey than what I consider the important message. What I want the book to do is make the reader aware that life is always offering us clues that help us break free of our self-imposed limits. It’s always our choice whether we chose self-imprisonment or self-freedom. The main purpose of the book is to awaken the reader to the fact that there is far more in life for us than against us. Life wants us to choose self-freedom so we can use our incredibly creative skills productively.

I was born into poverty and now I’m rich; and yes indeed, money adds a great sweetener to life. I’d rather be rich than poor. But money is not nearly as sweet a treasure as are so many other riches of life. I’ve found nothing more fulfilling than the sweet joy of giving back to the world that which the world has given me. That’s what sets my passion ablaze. And, though real estate and restaurants have been wonderful avenues to purposeful living for me, it’s offering the secrets that allow anyone to break through their false feelings of inadequacy that truly satisfies me. The ultimate truth is that you can be whatever you aspire to be. I find writing and speaking about the unlimitedness of humanity the ultimate thrill, the ultimate joy – it’s exhilarating.

It’s built into the universal system of life that the knowledge we share with others, we not only get to keep, but we drive it deeper into our own minds so we can use it in the world more effectively. That’s why the tutor always knows the lesson best. I don’t want to lose the valuable lessons that so many ordinary, everyday, unassuming gurus have given me over the past seven decades. That’s why I wrote the Margaret book. I give important insights and life-lessons away so I can keep them.

I’ve come to believe that everything in life that is of any value is spiritual. I also believe that if it ain’t practical it ain’t spiritual. Practicing true spirituality is simply applying good old-fashion common sense to what you think, say and do. For example, in ancient spiritual text it says, “You shall decree a thing and it shall come to pass.” That is great practical advice. There is nothing more practical than to live your life knowing that if you want to achieve something new, it’s wise to quietly decree it to be so to yourself until you can feel the realness of it. When you feel the realness, you do what naturally needs to be done, and it does come to pass.

I also believe money is a spiritual matter. Perhaps not always, but it is when it’s handled rightly. Yes, I’ve heard that money is the root of all evil. And, there was a time when I spent money foolishly and vainly (fancy cars and the likes), and it wasn’t a spiritual practice. But as I spiritually matured, it became apparent that there is no better reason to desire extra money than to use some of the excess to lift humanity and brighten dark spots on the planet. How are we to build hospitals and schools and libraries and museums and science centers without money? How are we to pay the construction workers who build these facilities, and build the heavy machinery needed to construct these buildings without money? What about the doctors, nurses and teachers who work in these facilities – how will they be paid without money? How do we feed the impoverished and educate the illiterate without contributions of money? So, I contend that if we are going to say that money is the root of all evil, then by the same line of reasoning, we must also say that money is the root of all good. That’s why I believe that working to make a lot of money is a spiritual matter when the intent is not only to enjoy the money but to use it to make a better world for everyone to enjoy.

My future plans include teaching the business knowledge and skills that I’ve learned while becoming a successful real estate and restaurant entrepreneur, but not without speaking the of spiritual responsibility that comes with making a lot of money. Currently, I’m teaching a class at Northeastern University, in Boston Massachusetts. I love the energy in the classroom. Knowledge is the natural thirst of youth, and it’s invigorating to work with young adults who seek to know more about how their minds work and how life works so they can live more productively. I call the class a WOE to WOW experience, and all of the students feel the WOW by the time they finished the course.

Just as a flame cannot remain warm without oxygen, human beings cannot remain impassioned without a spiritual purpose. What would you consider your spiritual practice in life right now?

UNRAVELED and giveaway with Jen Frederick

THIS WAS ONLY TEMPORARY, I reminded myself, as Samantha so sweetly kissed me back. I’m only here for a short time I reminded myself but as I felt her tongue stroke the side of my tongue, as she nipped her teeth against my lip, I wanted to just drown in the sensation. Her scent filled my head and the air around us shrank until all I knew was her small body sitting so close to mine. I moved my hand from her shoulder to cup her neck and angled her face for deeper penetration. I licked every inch inside of her mouth until the taste of her was all that I knew on my tongue.

And all that time I stared in to her green eyes and not once did she look like she was anywhere but right here with me. I saw my reflection there. Her heartbeat was made wild by my kisses.

And temporary was the farthest thing from my mind.
