Why would I pay for a review?
The chances of getting free reviews are slim in today's market. Authors have to pay to promote and paying to get a review is part of promotion.
But won't my review look bad or be biased because it was paid for?
At Manic Readers you are paying us, the company, for a service - ie: the review. We pay our reviewers to review books for our company. You, the author, are not paying directly for the review but rather for a service from our company.
What if the reviewer hates my genre?
Our reviewers are not assigned to a story, they choose what books they wish to review. Therefore, it is highly unlikely a reviewer would pick a story in a genre they don't enjoy.
What if I pay for a review and it's a bad review?
Our reviewers are asked to do fair, honest, constructive reviews. This means that you may very well get a bad review. You are not paying for a good review, but rather an honest one. However, if a review is really bad and you feel you can't use anything out of it, we consider the option of having another reviewer review the book free of charge. This is only on a case by case basis and is not our policy.
What if other authors think it's bad taste to have a paid review?
Our opinion is that it would be better to have a paid review, with a quotable sentence or two that you can use for promotion, than to have absolutely no reviews.
Isn't it better to have your friends or family review your book?
Certainly, but are they going to be honest? Do you consider a review from an author's mother to be an unbiased review? With our review company you are getting a review from a stranger who is completely unbiased. The reviewer gets paid whether they like the story and rave about it or they don't and give it their honest feedback.
Can I find out who your reviewers are?
It is confidential who are reviewers are, however, they have been personally vetted by our company and are professionals and experienced at reviewing books.
Can I be a reviewer?
Our reviewers are experienced reviewers and are not doing this for the first time. If you have done reviews in the past on a professional level or you know someone who has, contact us at reviews@manicreaders.com and we will discuss their qualifications and answer questions.
A friend told me that you should never pay for reviews
Ten years ago, friends told friends they should never self-publish either. How's that working out?
I published my book but haven't received any reviews. Will this help?
Any review will help you with promotion. Having a third party tell people about your book is how book sales happen. Using our reviews on your website, social media, and other media outlets helps you get the promotion wheel turning more readily.
Can I get more than one review for my book?
You can get as many reviews as you wish. Each review is a separate transaction meaning you pay for each review. No matter how many you want, you must pay for each review.
I have 7,500 titles and want 2 reviews for each - can I do that?
Yep. You simply pay for each review for all your titles times two. No problem. Happy to help.
Where will my review appear?
The review will appear on the Manic Readers website. However, authors are welcome to post the review on other sites at their discretion. We encourage authors to review and comply with the terms of service of the sites they choose to post the review.
You've convinced me - I'm in. What do I do next?
On our website, you'll find all the information including the steps to take to get your book into our system and sign up for a review.
