Coventry, Texas bills itself as the "tiny town with the big heart." Amid its picturesque storefronts and open-minded locals, one woman in search of a temporary hideaway might find much more than she hoped for.
Jandy Taylor's grandfather always teased her about not being able to finish anything. So perhaps it's not a shock that a few days before her wedding to soap star Hudson Blake, Jandy postpones the ceremony and hitches a ride to Coventry, Texas, with a stranger named Sam, a dog named Sue, and an overwhelming desire to escape-if only for a few days.
Coventry is in the middle of its famed annual Godiva Festival, making it the perfect place for Jandy to be carefree and invisible. That is until the press dubs her a "runaway bride." Now, with an eager groom, her PR-hungry mother, and a swarm of paparazzi on her trail, Jandy has to figure out if it's possible that a town, a life, and a man she hardly knows could suddenly feel an awful lot like home.
January Halli is a woman who has everything a woman could want. She has the handsome actor on his way up in the world; she has a wonderful apartment and has money to burn. A wedding to her fiancé Hud would make everything perfect right? Well maybe not.
Jandy's character was quirky, funny and an all around fun gal to be around. When the small wedding she wants turns into a free for all, January Halli, takes off for a little vacation to think things through in her grandfather's beat up old truck. Along the way she meets Sam and Sue and is on a course that will forever change her life. January introduces herself as "Jandy" which was her nickname growing up. Jandy soon ends up in Coventry, Texas where life seems to be something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Can life really be this uncomplicated? While in Coventry, she feels like a different person and finds that it is easy to make friends with such wonderful colorful people, especially the Revere family. Although the town is talking about a possible match with Sam Revere, Jandy loves the peace and quiet of a small town.
I absolutely adored A Coventry Wedding. It was laced with so many different characters with unique personalities that it was hard to find one that didn't relate to me in some way or another. It was amusing to watch Jandy slowly blossom into the woman she was meant to be and have a unique relationship with each person around her. It was so endearing how all of those around her were willing to help her without even really knowing her. The Revere family was a family that I would have loved to have known. They were all so different but they were as close as a family could be. I have lived in small towns a few times in my life and yes a place like Coventry, Texas really does exist. The paparazzi in the book captured my attention as I am such a celebrity enthusiast and it helped me to realize what their lives must really be like with all the exposure they are confronted with and how a story can spin out of control that is so very incorrect.
A Coventry Wedding is going on my shelf as a book that I will most certainly be reading several times over. It really does give you that "feel good" feeling. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good clean, fun and, at times, laugh out loud funny read. The witty banter in the book is unbelievable and there was more than one time during the book when I said to myself, "Self, now you have to remember that comeback line!” It was superbly written and I cannot wait to read more in the Coventry series. Hats off to Becky Cochrane for writing such an amusing read that kept my attention from the beginning to the end.
