Martin Simms, a lonely businessman, meets and falls in love with a hotel maid. Mia Barelli finds, after accepting a dinner invitation with the irresistable Martin, that she feels the same-but there’s just one little problem. She’s already engaged.
Mia tries to resist their passionate connection, but is unable to say no to Martin. What is she going to do about her fiance, though? A heartfelt goodbye letter later, Martin may accept that Mia has moved on...but he can’t seem to stop loving her.
And when Mia’s sister steps in to try to "fix" things, more complications arise....
Martin finished his breakfast and paid his bill. He slipped a large tip to Leona and then kissed her cheek softly before heading back up to his room. He saw Mia's cart in the hallway in front of his room. He approached slowly, not wanting to interrupt her job or anything else she may be doing in his room.
He peeked inside his room and saw his bed was made. He heard Mia humming quietly and when she emerged from the bathroom, she was startled to see him standing in the doorway.
"Oh! Mr. Simms, I didn't see you there!" She gasped as she ran right into him, nearly knocking him off his feet.
"Call me Martin.” He smiled warmly at her. She didn't make eye contact with him and he could tell she was trembling. "Everything okay?"
"Yes, Mr. Sim—Martin. Everything's fine. I'll just finish up and get out of your way, sir.” She pushed past him and out to her cart.
"You won't be in the way, Mia. I've got some work to do on my computer. Take your time.” He crossed the room toward the couch, turned to look at her and their eyes locked. He felt his heart begin to beat faster and he clenched his fists at his sides. Breaking eye contact with her, he turned and took a few more steps to the couch, then picked up his laptop and sat down.
He could still feel her eyes on him. He glanced up to look at her again and she turned away quickly, walking to the cart outside the room and placing the dirty towels in the canvas bag hooked to the side of the cart.
She bent over to grab fresh towels off the bottom shelf of the cart and she heard Martin gasp. Bringing herself upright and turning to look at him, she noticed he was standing an arm's length away from her.
"Never, ever bend over like that in front of me again.” Martin reached out and pulled her to him, causing her to drop the clean towels to the floor. He brought his lips down to hers, brushing against them softly before placing one hand on the back of her neck and pulling her in for a deeper kiss.
Martin could feel Mia's restraint as his tongue teased her lips. She let out a quiet moan and when she did, he plunged his tongue into her mouth. She responded to his kiss by running her hands up his chest and around his neck.
Their tongues danced together as the kiss ignited the fire between them. After several seconds, she pushed him away, her breathing ragged and her heart beating furiously. As his breathing returned to normal, he released his grip before he spoke.
"Have dinner with me.” His voice was raspy with desire.
"I—I can't," she stammered, her body still trembling from the most amazing kiss she’d ever experienced.
Mia pushed him away further then bent to pick up the towels she'd dropped. When she stood upright, she locked eyes with Martin again. She could see the desire in his eyes and it caused her heart to beat even faster than it already was. Clutching the towels tightly, she pushed past him and into the bathroom.
Mia was a maid in a hotel and found herself attracted to Martin an average man with an average job that caused him to travel a lot. Mia had an extremely jealous fiancé who wouldn't take kindly to her flirting with a hotel guest and besides, it was against company policy to do so. Although she knew that it wasn't possible to have a relationship with Martin, neither could deny the sparks they both felt when they were near each other.
Mia's character was very loyal and I liked that about her. She knew how to say no and did so at every opportunity but when she couldn't say no any longer, the passion was very evident. Maid For Each Other had some very hot and steamy sex scenes that made it all the more enjoyable getting to know the characters and their relationship. Martin's character shows the other side of the relationship. He felt as though he was just an average man and he had to compete with a male model. He wanted Mia more than anything but refused to do anything with her that would make her unhappy. The secondary characters in the story were brilliant. I loved Mia's sister and how she tried to help the situation throughout the book. The added Italian language drew me into the book and I must say that my favorite line was when Martin told Mia “Italian, baby. I don’t care what you say, just say it in Italian!” I love the Italian language and find it very sensual and thought it was a nice touch to the book. If you are looking for a steamy and quick read, then Maid for Each Other is the book for you. I look forward to reading more of Vivian Vincent's work as I enjoyed reading this one. I won't give anything away but I must tell the author, toward the middle of the book, the climax was BRILLIANT! Loved it and was cheering!
