Maggie Lockwood has done the unthinkable and now after serving her year in prison she is going home. She is excited to be out and to see her family but her inner turmoil, hating herself, will be difficult to get past. Keith Weston was one of the people affected by Maggie’s stupidity and he hates her. But Keith’s problems double when his mother, Sara, comes up missing without a trace. He struggles to survive and to find his mother but it seems that every rock he turns over yields yet another secret she was hiding. Can Keith find his mother? Will Maggie forgive herself and be able to move on?
Secrets She Left Behind is an eloquently written and insightful novel. The story is seamless and the first person point of view for each character is fresh and provides intimate details perhaps lost in another point of view. The characters could be your next door neighbor and seem very real. The plot is absolute genius. The inner struggle of the characters as well as the outer struggles of the two families to continue on with their lives is hard to imagine but there are families in this world that are doing just that. Chamberlain has written an intriguing page turner that is extremely difficult to put down.
