Katherine lost one hero in the line of duty -- can she risk loving another?
Katherine Pelham's fiance was a police officer, shot and killed during a robbery. Left with a house she can't afford, she must rent out the first floor to solve her money woes. Before she can finishing putting up the For Rent sign, along comes a man who seems interested in more than just the apartment.
Fireman Jack Connelly is in a bind: he's rescued a dog, and his lease doesn't allow pets. The new apartment would be great. The new landlady, even better...
Katherine Pelham is afraid of heroes. Not the mythic kind but firemen and police officers. It’s been years since she lost her fiancé to a shooting and is barely getting back on her feet. She never expected though for history to repeat itself. Jack Connelly is everything she doesn’t in her life right now. With bills piling up she has no choice but to rent out her home to Jack. She knows once he moves in he will bring more than his stuff but also his heart. It doesn’t help that he has a dog name Archer who already is attached to her. Every time Jack comes near her she is unable to control herself. She knows that if anything happened again she would be living in fear. Fear of waking up one day to see him hurt or dead.
Jack Connelly has no idea what is in store for him when he moves in with Katherine Pelham. As a firefighter he is known to jump at emergencies yet with Katherine he is cautious of every step he takes. He knows she’s been hurt before but not sure how. Each time he thinks he’s made progress she shies away. One kiss from her is not enough for him and Jack wants her forever. Can he prove to her that he will not die now? That he will always be there to protect and love her?
Three Alarm Tenant is the first book for me by Charlotte McClain and won’t be the last. The attraction between these two was hot and scintillating. Yet the fear Kate had in her was too much for her. You can feel her heartache at losing the one you love and understand her fear at the same time. Heroes do exist and love also yet it takes one person to really leap forward without thinking, especially love, that makes you a hero. Kate is definitely meant for Jack in this beautiful story. Great job Charlotte.
