A master magicker, Morgana Blackthorne has a tenuous hold on her following. When a strange Englishman arrives on her doorstep with news of other druidic magickers, and magicker problems, she's intrigued but suspicious. There hasn't been contact between the American and European druids in over a hundred years. Plus she has her own worries and doesn't need the handsome earl adding to them.
Lucien, Earl of Granville, left England to seek out the Blackthorne Druid line and discover what they've been up to since contact was lost. Once he and Morgana meet, their mutual attraction distracts him from his puropse. Embroiled in her problems, he finds himself more concerned with her welfare than is practical for a passing affair.
There are darker forces at work and the hunger of a weak magicker desperate for power. Will Lucien convince Morgana of his true feelings before things spiral out of control? Or will the surrounding subterfuge tear them apart?
“Thank you,” she managed in a somewhat normal voice, “for meeting me so early. Have you had breakfast?”
Her fingers tingled from where his lips touched her hand. In fact, the shiver continued to race up and down her arm, and set her heart beating faster.
“Yes.” He nodded, a wicked look in his dark blue eyes. He knew exactly what he did to her and was unrepentant. Two could play at that game.
“Tea, then?” she asked, a saucy smile on her lips.
His eyes lingered on her mouth and his impossibly blue eyes darkened further. Heart pounding, Morgana controlled her breathing and rang for more tea. In those few moments, she made up her mind about two things.
One was that she could trust Lord Granville. Her instinct had never steered her wrong, and in this instance, it compelled her to take him into her confidence. Not only would he be a valuable ally in her quest to stop David, he could be an indispensable connection to the other
masters.
The second was much more primal. She wanted him. She wanted him with a need unfamiliar to her. And she was going to have him.
“What are your plans for today, Lord Granville?” she asked, retaking her seat in the sunlight.
Dark Desires Of The Druids II: Sex And Subterfuge picks up with Lucien, Lord Granville. He left England immediately following his parents’ funeral. Sent by Gareth, one of the English Masters, his mission is to find out if a threat to them exists in the American magickal community. What he finds is a master like none he’s ever encountered, Morgana Blackthorne, Master of the American magickers. There has been no contact with their American brethren for over a hundred years. She intrigues him like no woman ever has. However he feels he still needs to discover if the American magickers are a threat to the English magickers or are they themselves at risk?
Lucien crosses the pond to America, Philadelphia to be exact. He is directed to Morgana, Master and powerful head of an extensive and far flung network. Lucien has heard of her but never could he have imagined the reality. It takes a special man to handle a woman as strong and confidant as Morgana. Does Lucien have what it takes to handle not only Morgana but her position?
Morgana is as different from Raven as you can get. Older, widowed and very secure in both her magick and position as Master. She wields both effortlessly and plays the game well. The need for secrecy is just as strong in America as England. The politics haven’t changed much and people in power still want the magickers eradicated. It’s always fascinating when two strong willed independent people are as attracted to each other as Lucien and Morgana are. Will the very qualities they value, respect and admire bring them together or tear them apart? Not only do they have their own natures to deal with but the responsibilities they both shoulder are no small matter and literally, an ocean apart. The tension ratchets up when a dire threat against the American magickers and Morgana herself is discovered. How can it be nullified without sacrificing all that’s been established?
Dark Desires Of The Druids II: Sex And Subterfuge, the second installment of the Druids series is just as interesting a read as the first. There is danger, treachery, romance and passion aplenty. Takoda, Morgana’s self-appointed body guard is an intriguing character I’d like to learn more about. All in all, a worthy follow up to the Murder And Magick.
