An outrageously entertaining debut novel of life, love, death—and the afterlife.
Rosie Fisk was once Samantha Marcello's best friend—but that was before she ran off with Sam's fiancé, Michael, seven years ago. Since then Sam has found a new love, The Silver Swan, her pub. And just as it seems that time has healed all her wounds, Michael walks back into her life—and now he's a widower.
With Rosie out of the picture, and unable to ignore the feelings she still has for him, Sam takes the opportunity to reconcile with Michael. But Rosie isn't about to let death stop her from keeping them apart. Her ghost has been hanging around her husband, playing on his grief and guilt—and only Sam can see her.
Rosie stole Michael from her once. But this time Sam is going to exorcise her once and for all...
Getting Rid of Rosie is about a ghost who haunts the life of her best friend and will go to any lengths to make sure that she does not get the prize her husband Michael and her daughter Julie.
Rosie Fisk is dead. She died in a mysterious car accident. Someone in a black van killed her and the person driving the car did not call 911 to get help. Instead, he called from a pay phone later on because he did not want anyone to know what had happened to cause the crash. Samantha Marcello, Rosie’s best friend, owns a pub in a small town and learns of her death in a strange way. She wants to make a life for herself without, Michael.
Imagine seeing your ex-fiancé after many years come into your restaurant with one purpose in mind—to renew old friendships and try to make it work a second time. But, what if your dead wife decides that is not what she wants and makes sure that Samantha knows she will do everything in her power, ghostly power that is, to make sure that never happens? You see, Rosie is a ghost and she appears to be holding all of the cards. Letting Samantha see her and not anyone else, she begins to take control of every situation whenever she and Michael are together. Add to these characters, Eva and Johnny who work for Samantha in the pub and who she confides in about seeing Rosie. Her wacky and eccentric grandmother, Loretta, who tries to run her life, the pub and get rid of the ghosts that she thinks are living there and you have the makings of a funny, hysterical and yet heartwarming novel.
Trying to go on a date with Michael becomes an impossible feat for Samantha with Rosie around telling her it will never happen. She wants to be a part of his life and her daughter’s and she had better beg off. Samantha is going to fight her hardest to win. In order to find out what really happened during their marriage and how she really died, Eva, Derek, Michael’s brother and Samantha take a trip back to where it all started in Huntsville to find the answers. But, when Michael shows up, what you might expect to happen does not.
Working together to try and make him want to move forward and free of Rosie’s control, the author of this book brilliantly adds her own special twist to the ending. In my opinion this book really teaches us that we cannot always go backwards and need to move ahead in relationships. Samantha thought that what she wanted was what she had given up, but it took a ghost and a good friend to show her the way and the truth. Derek and Michael are brothers, Rosie her best friend and Eva her new friend came to realize what each really needed and what they had to do in order to move on. This book is funny in some respects but sad in others. Rosie was unhappy and could not find anyone who was constant in her life until she had Michael and her only and true friend Samantha. Relationships happen when you least expect them and are sometimes right in front of your eyes. I would definitely recommend Getting Rid of Rosie to a friend.
