Air Force pilot, Major Erich "Daredevil" Stark runs into a woman leaving a club and is immediately attracted to her. He wants to know her better but after a brief and intense interaction she slips away. When they meet again, he longs to start over.
Bliss Esparza has spent her life doing two things. Dancing and raising her younger brother, When she meets the handsome pilot she knows he’s something special.
Erich knows she's the one for him. But one night he finds himself tossed out of her villa after offering to help her brother with a recommendation letter for military school. Will he be able to convince her to give them another chance?
I love books by Aliyah Burke because when she writes her characters have depth and soul to them. They have real life situations to deal with and it is how they deal with them and the emotion of the love they feel for each other that shines through and that makes these stories both heart wrenching and poignant and yet so sensual and hot to read!
Born To Fly: Landing in Love is no exception! Major Erich Stark lives to fly—and he does, in the U.S. Air Force. He accidentally runs into Bliss Esparza coming out of a dance club and assumes that she is a dancer—she is, but just not the sort he had imagined. She doesn't mince words at their first meeting and he is determined that the first brief, quite unsuccessful meeting will not be the last. Little does he know that it will come sooner rather than later as he is asked to be a driver for a dance instructor—this happens to be Bliss. Bliss is a young woman who has had more sadness in her short life than most of us have to deal with and yet she has risen above it and she is doing a great job of raising her brother single handedly. She is however a woman who has also erected barriers and it will be up to Erich to see if he can scale the walls she has built around her heart or if they are too high for even him to climb.
Erich is to die for—his drawling voice was enough to send shivers down my spine and you could just imagine what it did to Bliss who was on the receiving end. He is a gentleman and boy he does look danm hot in a pair of jeans and cowboy boots. One other attractive feature is his piercing blue eyes! What a dish! Bliss on the other hand is also a real beauty, both inside and out. She has the ability to dance sensuously and Erich loves her beautiful mocha skin and heart shaped face and button nose—he loves the whole Bliss package.
The first kiss they share is just earth shattering and the two have this fantastic chemistry between them, but still Bliss holds back. Erich wants Bliss and he would even be happy if she got pregnant—in fact he is one of the male rare characters I have read about who wouldn't mind having a baby and actually wants that to happen. Another sweet curve written by Ms. Burke to keep it interesting and to endear us even more to the characters! What I did find a bit strange though is that even though I love the fact that Erich wants a baby and wants Bliss, they did have unprotected sex many times. In this day and age, well, it just seems to be a little strange, but as mentioned, it does fit with the storyline and the character’s way of thinking.
Erich has to overcome Bliss's fears and to do that he needs to know what they are—he can't do that however when she shuts him out and refuses to have anything to do with him. It takes brother Mateo to try to work his own personal matchmaking magic to try to bring the two together to sort out their differences. The sex is beyond anything the Richter scale could ever measure, but it is the fears that Bliss has that will keep this relationship from developing further. Erich is kind and patient and oh so yummy! I was a little disappointed about the end of the story—I guess I had expected a different kind of happily ever after for these two characters and what there was, while ok wasn't what I had imagined. I really hope that this isn't all that we see of Bliss and Erich because I for one am now hungering for a finish to this particular story.
Ms Burke hasn't disappointed—she has written a wonderful story of overcoming fears and loving and being together that really tugs at your heartstrings and has you rooting for the characters and hoping like mad that they get their happy ever after. Another home run Ms. Burke—can't wait for more!
