MR Review
The Key by Pauline Baird Jones Award nominated author of The Key, Pauline Baird Jones, has created an epic adventure as mankind extends the exploration of space into far-flung galaxies. The lead vessel, the Doolittle, a small sized world within itself, is suddenly attacked by unknown alien space craft.. Scrambling their fighters, Captain Sara Donovan, United States Air Force, is struck by a potentially deadly laser beam. Spiraling down to an uncharted planet, Sara manages to crash land her fighter on a small section of a rocky beach. Knocked unconsciousness by the violent crash, Sara is aware of nothing while lying helpless in her destroyed fighter. An alien warrior, Kiernan Fyn, who had crashed landed there a year before during a similar battle, hears the damaged space ship, and sees the crash. Fyn manages to rescue Sara, and carries her back to the cave where he has been living. When Sara awakens she is surprised to find herself in a cave, with a huge gorgeous man watching her. Luckily, they are able to communicate. Sara's ship has a homing beacon, the two are rescued, and return to the Doolittle. Fyn knows who attacked the Doolittle; is very knowledgeable of the forces who are vying for control of the galaxy, proves himself a well trained, competent pilot, and soon is a valued shipmate. On her first flight after her crash, an unknown planet literally pulls Sara's space ship to it, and forces the plane to land. Who, or even what, is Sara?
This thrilling adventure and love story is the stuff of dreams for a perfect romantic space adventure. Stories like this are why I love to read, and I definitely understand why this novel has been nominated for awards. Forget sleeping, plan on take out, and invest your time relishing this magnificent tale. I wish that I had a man like Fyn.
That said, rush to the nearest spaceport, well okay, bookstore, grab The Key, and discover the magic for yourself. Just allow yourself adequate time to enjoy this treasure.
