Tall Dark and Alpha An Alpha is Determined

Thank you for hosting us today. We’re excited to talk about the alpha trait determination and our stories for the boxed set Tall, Dark & Alpha as we try to figure out: what IS alpha?

An Alpha is Determined

When the alpha man wants something, nothing stands in his way. He never gives up and he never gives in. If he wants you, look out!

In Tall, Dark & Apocalyptic by Sam Cheever, a paranormal romance, the alpha hero is a bounty hunter. Determination is Audie’s strongest trait. He never gives up, never gives in. Some might even call him stubborn…but then Yeira doesn’t always fully appreciate his finely-tuned sense of determination. #:0) (A grand passion in an apocalyptic world. A love beyond reason and without boundaries.)

The alpha hero in Rock My Boat by Afton Locke, a paranormal romance, is a shape shifter. From the time Simon realizes Rhonda is his mate and decides he needs her, he pursues her. That woman can make him vulnerable in a heartbeat, though, changing all his plans.
story snippet:
Bleak coldness flooded his limbs, reminding him of the stormy night that had changed the course of his life forever. Losing her was not an option. She was the one. He’d known from the moment he’d spotted her at the safety briefing.
(Once addicted to the sea, you can’t escape its pleasures.)

Silver Tongued Devils by Dawn Montgomery, a sci-fi romance, has two alpha heroes. Captain Na’varr has searched for the chance to take back the world he’d lost in a bloody coups d’état. Raesa offers him a chance he’d never imagined, and one he can’t refuse.
Brom learned early on that he had to rely on himself for survival. When Na’varr saved his life, he swore to serve him until death. Meeting Raesa unraveled his careful plans, but drives him forward. (She was always one step from hell until she found redemption in their arms.)

In Fight for Love by Delaney Diamond, a contemporary romance, the alpha hero is a former professional wrestler. Rafael is determined to get his wife and child to move to California to be with him, and he’s determined to protect his son from the media spotlight. He doesn’t want his son to suffer because he’s a celebrity. (A former pro wrestler fights to hold onto the woman he lost, but still loves, and the son he never knew existed.)

The alpha hero in Crazy by Eve Langlais, a paranormal romance, is a vampire. Once Zane sets his sights on making Ella his, even poltergeists can’t stand in his way. (Ella hears voices and they don’t like anyone.)

In Sex With an Ex by Eve Vaughn, a contemporary romance, the alpha hero is a lawyer. When Ethan Boudreaux sees something he wants, he’ll go after it. He’s determined to have Riley back in his life and in his bed. Ethan is used to getting what he wants because he won’t let anything stand in his way. (When two divorcees reunite in the bedroom, the sex is hotter than ever, but can their hearts survive the second time around?)

The alpha hero for In Her Wildest Dreams by Farrah Rochon is a CEO chocolatier. Once Gavin decides it’s time to change his relationship with Erica from friends to lovers, it’s a full court press to win her heart. (When the woman of his dreams asks him to create a Valentine’s Day fantasy, Gavin plans to show her just how sweet their reality could be.)

In Two Cops, a Girl and a Pair of Handcuffs by Paige Tyler, a contemporary romance, the heroes, Reed and Hayes, are both cops. They don’t want a one-night stand with Cilla, and they’re determined to make sure it isn’t. (Working the late shift just got a whole lot more fun!)

The alpha hero in Chase and Seduction: Hot Country Series, Book 1 by Randi Alexander, a contemporary romance, is a musician. When the woman he’s chosen to seduce turns him down flat, country western superstar Chase Tanner takes steps to make sure she knows he still wants her, and will keep trying to convince her to give him a chance. (Come backstage and get your hands on country superstar Chase Tanner!)

Featured Story – Tall, Dark & Apocalyptic by Sam Cheever

He’s a warrior, a bounty hunter in a world turned upside down. She’s a target, a creature of dark magic. His job is simple. Kill the target. Her goal is more complex. She must stay alive until she finds and destroys the source of death magic staining the twenty worlds. But the passion burning within them may be their undoing. It’s going to take an apocalyptic will to overcome the distraction their bodies are creating…and not lose themselves in the process.

“There are ten reborns in that hillside lair.”

Audie pulled his sword so quickly the woman’s bright blue gaze widened slightly with alarm. “Let’s go kill them.”

Instead of moving, Yeira just stared up at him, looking eminently disappointed.

When she didn’t move, Audie placed the tip of his sword in the dirt at his feet and leaned on it. “What?”

“Have you even been listening to me?”

He frowned. “Hanging on every word, why?”

“You remember the part about my goal? Wherein I don’t kill everything that moves but instead try to find Edwige?”

She sounded so much like his legal counsel Audie couldn’t help grinning. She certainly didn’t look like any lawyer he’d ever met. “Vaguely.”

She turned on her heel and strode away, her feet hitting the dry, scratchy-sounding grass much harder than they needed to.

Feeling just a tiny bit proud of himself for getting under her skin, Audie started after her. The good feeling didn’t last long.

As soon as he caught up she glanced at him and asked. “So how good are you at restrictive magics?”

Audie worked hard not to show his panic. “I’m much better at whacking things than restraining them.”

One corner of her delicious mouth curved upward. “You do have guide magic, right?”

“Of course!” He was deeply insulted by her question. Only the novice hunter walked around without a guide to call. “I didn’t say I couldn’t restrain them. I just said I was better at lopping off their heads.”

She sniffed but didn’t say anything and Audie’s temper flared. Suddenly he found it very important to prove himself to her. He stopped, but the woman kept walking. Watching her fine, heart-shaped behind sway away from him, he lifted one hand, palm up. With a thought he called the magic in their surroundings and sparking blue particles of energy filled the air, speeding toward him. The light caught and swirled in a power-whirlwind above his palm, waiting for his direction.

Smiling, Audie glanced at the woman, whose, curvy form had widened the distance between them by ten feet. With a thought he sent the swirling blue magic surging toward her, grinning as it wrapped her in a shimmering embrace and dragged her to a halt.

She gave a little squeal of alarm and Audie strode over, stopping to stare down at her. “It appears my restrictive magics work just fine.

She struggled against his magic web. “Good. Now let me go.”

Watching her fight the magic, her red hair flying around delicate shoulders as she struggled to get free, something broke inside Audie. Something that had been closed was wrenched open. And suddenly he couldn’t help wondering how her wine-colored lips would taste—pondering how they’d feel moving softly beneath his.

Once the thought was free he couldn’t call it back and Audie stepped closer.

She stopped struggling and looked up at him through those unfathomable blue eyes, the thick fringe of dark red lashes fluttering slightly as she seemed to consider whether he meant her harm. Audie reached out and touched her porcelain-colored cheek, and she flinched.

His finger scraped softly against the velvet surface and Audie turned it so the calluses on the tips wouldn’t abrade her delicate skin. “How is it possible that you’re so beautiful?” He murmured. It was meant to be a thought. One he’d wondered all too often to himself. But the words escaped his lips and she heard.

Yeira’s eyes widened in alarm. “Look, Hunter, I…”

He didn’t want to hear what she had to say. Couldn’t stand it if, in the moment when his cold heart had warmed slightly, she filled the heat-charged air between them with ugly words. So he did the only thing he could. He lowered his head and captured her lush, burgundy lips with his own.

And the thing that had blossomed inside his chest creaked open another inch as she responded with instinctive passion to his touch.

Stripper with Spice Tour and contest with Afton Locke

Stripper With Spice

Thank you for hosting me today. I’m excited to talk about the spice MACE, and my latest release, Stripper With Spice, a contemporary erotic romance.

Mandatory Mace

Even though it sounds more like a self-defense weapon, mace is one of the spices. If you’ve ever had custard or eggnog, you’ve probably eaten some. Cookies and cake may contain it too. It comes from a membrane that covers a nut.

When I was a child, eggnog was a big deal with my family during the holidays. I usually ended up with a cold that time of year due to the bad weather, short days, and hubbub of family visits. Someone would fix a big glass of eggnog and shove it under my nose with strict orders to drink the whole thing. It was supposed to heal me. Who thought that one up? Being a kid, it didn’t occur to argue with the logic. I would just stare at the creamy goo and grimace before forcing down a few swallows. By the way, I don’t think the version they gave me had alcohol in it. Now that might have healed me! It would’ve tasted better too.

When I grew up and started dating, men were like drinks. Some were as tempting as an icy glass of lemonade on a hot day. Before I even tasted it, I knew I wanted to slurp down the whole glass. Others were more basic but palatable, such as apple juice and iced tea. A variety of men asked me out, and several first dates turned into relationships. When a few I wanted nothing to do with approached me, it was easy to say no. After all, who wants to drink prune juice?

Occasionally, though, one that I wasn’t sure about would ask me out. These were the most difficult. I’d weigh the pros and cons. He’s nice. He has an interesting hobby he could teach me. It’s nice to have a lot of friends. Maybe he’ll grow on me. What I know now is these guys were eggnog in disguise. They never worked out. They didn’t grow on me and they got ticked off when they realized I wasn’t totally into them. Stupid. So why did I take the first drink? Was I that sick kid taking a few swallows of eggnog to please my family? No more. If I don’t like it, I’m not going to drink it. Of course, I’m in a one-drink relationship now, so it’s easy.

In my story, Janet hates her job and career but clings to it with ferocity because it was good in the past and pays her bills today. When Carlos comes along, their relationship starts as a fling, but as their relationship deepens, she finds her choices in question. Will she dare to pursue a more fulfilling life or will she choke down that glass of eggnog because she thinks she should?

Distracted, I struggle to put on hoop earrings. One misses my ear and pricks me in the nose. With trembling fingers, I finally attach both of them in the right place.

My eyebrows fly into my hairline when I read he works at a strip club about an hour away from where I live. That explains the thong pictures. I don’t know what surprises me more, the fact he lives so close or that he’s a professional stripper.

A stripper… Wow. I’ve never dated one of those before. Do they undress as provocatively in private as they do on stage?

Inspired by the visual image of a slow strip-tease, I ease on a black lace blouse—something else I blew hard-earned money on for this convention—and black cords over the sexy lingerie I’ve worn most all weekend. After I’m dressed, I give my hips a wild swivel that almost makes me lose my balance.

Wait a minute, Janice. STRIPPER. To get through to myself, I spell it in all caps in my mind. My conservative financial employer would surely not approve if I had a stripper boyfriend and hung out at strip clubs. Could I even lose my job over it? Didn’t the lengthy employment agreement I had to sign include something about how I must conduct myself professionally and personally? The thought flips my stomach over. Cool, clammy sweat blooms under my lace blouse.

He’s all wrong for me on paper—too young, too muscular and too darn sexy. Then what explains the magic that feels so right?

I slide my feet into my black high-heeled sandals and head to the door, deciding to find out. If I can uncover some reason not to like him tonight, maybe I can get this craziness out of my head once and for all.

Rose, Exposed – When Characters Have Secrets with giveaway

Thank you for hosting me today. I’m excited to discuss character secrets and my recent release, Rose, Exposed, a multicultural historical erotic romance set in the 1930s.

When Characters Have Secrets

Secrets never fail to fascinate. Discovering them is fun. Keeping them is challenging. In my latest release, Rose Exposed, Rose, a biracial young woman with pale skin, struggles with the biggest secret of her life — pretending to be white in 1930s southern Maryland. Living a double life stirs up every emotion imaginable, including fear, doubt, curiosity, and even excitement. After a lifetime of never fitting into either race, she enjoys the experience of identifying with one group. Leroy, the African-American hero, however, brings out another side of her she cannot deny.

The problem with secrets is they’re hard to keep under wraps. The good thing about them is they make great plot devices for books. When the reader knows something some of the main characters don’t, she feels empowered. She also sits on the edge of her seat as she reads, wondering when the cat be will inevitably let out of the bag and what disaster will follow. Good books torture characters to the max because that’s what creates conflict and makes them grow.

Although secrets can be complex, they usually make for an honest good read!

When Leroy gets promoted at the new oyster plant on Pearl Point, all he cares about is working hard. Then he meets flirtatious artist Rose, and soon nothing matters except getting her to the altar and into bed. He’s healing from a recent loss, and isn’t about to let her go too.

Because Rose’s strict, social-climbing father doesn’t approve of dark-skinned Leroy, they court in secret. Although Leroy’s raw passion can convince her to do almost anything, why can’t he understand she needs freedom, not marriage? However, in the 1930s, freedom for any woman is hard to come by.

In Leroy’s arms, Rose finds unimaginable sensual pleasures, but she’s torn by desire and duty. Her father wants her to be white; Leroy wants her to embrace her black heritage. Playing both sides of the fence leaves this young biracial beauty exposed in more ways than one.

“You’re so…dark,” she exclaimed. Instead of the disdain he expected, he heard fascination.

Come on, lady. Don’t tell me you’ve never seen a colored man before.

“Yes, I’m dark,” he agreed as he politely removed her hand, “which is why it’s not a good idea for us to sit alone together in this car. Someone might come along and jump to the wrong conclusion.”

A conclusion that could get him beat up or worse with the Klan close by on Oyster Island.

But before he could stop her, she clasped both sides of his face and pressed her sweet mouth to his. A man only had so much self-control, and she’d just shattered his. Unable to stop himself, he plundered her delicate mouth. Her lips reminded him of rose petals, and he sucked the sweetness out of them as if he were a bee. The more he tasted, the more he wanted.

She opened, giving him access to her even sweeter tongue. Taking a big breath, he pulled away from her.

“We can’t do this. You’re white.”

She looked down at her upturned palms. “Then I really do look white?”

Leroy frowned. “Aren’t you?”

WIPs Coming Soon
