Can there be such a thing as too much evidence?

When homicide detectives Steve Music and Kanietha Gertz are assigned to the Dainsbury Case, they have plenty of evidence…but no body!

While Dr. Haddon Dainsbury is in another city at a medical convention, the maid enters the master bedroom to find it a bloodbath. The ceiling and walls are spattered with blood. The silken ivory bedspread is saturated in blood as is the white carpet.

But there is no body.

Dr. Dainsbury's wife, Marion, is missing and it doesn't take long for DNA analysis to determine that the blood came from her. The medical examiner determines that Mrs. Dainsbury couldn't have survived the loss of so much blood. But where is her body? Why remove it?

Music realizes that there is only one valid reason for removing the body. There is something in, or on Mrs. Dainsbury's remains that will identify her attacker. Despite this reasoning, suspicion falls upon Dr. Dainsbury. His alibi isn't completely without holes, he and his wife have been married only some six months, but apparently the honeymoon was over.

While evidence continues to mount against Dr. Dainsbury, the doctor's ex-girlfriend is found strangled. Where did she fit in? What did she know?

The detectives are sure they have their man, but they still have no body.

After talking to the D.A., everyone agrees that in this case, as overwhelming evidence mounts against the doctor, they can put him away without a body. It has been done before.

But as the detectives will eventually discover, there are surprises ahead in "Evidence" that will chance everything they had been taught about the collection and interpretation of evidence.

A Steve Music mystery from the author of  "Music".
